Job Prospects With An Architect CAD Software Program

Job prospects for individuals with training in the use of architect CAD software programs are fairly high compared with other fields currently utilizing CAD programs. However, candidates for positions are still expected to have at least 2 years of post secondary education, with a strong emphasis on drafting, mathematics, architecture, knowledge of the varieties of materials and methods and terrains involved in construction. Experience with the use and applications of architect CAD software are also expected. Ideally, a four-year university degree is preferred, but is not absolutely necessary for a career in this field. Jobs are available from entry positions up to managerial positions involving the supervision of workers, departments, etc. There are also many freelance workers offering their services using architect CAD software to companies and individuals on the Internet all over the world.

Overall, it is a field of study offering varied job opportunities, job advancement, interesting work and challenging situations for design and use of materials, and adequate to excellent salaries. However, on the other side of the coin, there is also the fact that as with many other careers in North America these days; architect CAD software makes it easier for prospective employers to outsource these jobs overseas by hiring foreign workers. By simply using the Internet, an employer can hire the services of an overseas worker and send and receive a finished product using the architect CAD software program leading to completely overlooking the local workforce.  As well, an architect can also use the architect CAD software program himself to give shape on paper to his ideas, or do changes and revisions on the spot himself therefore eliminating the need for a CAD technician.  There would also be the need for periodical updating of training due to the constant change and advancement of both programs and tools involved in this field. These are possibilities that although somewhat negative and deserve some thought, should not turn a prospective CAD architectural technician away from this field. Becoming an architect CAD software technician is still an excellent field of study offering a variety of jobs in a variety of fields in architecture, with enough challenges and good pay scale making it a desirable career for people with an aptitude for drafting and design.

Training in this field can be obtained in a variety of ways. One can begin in high school with courses dealing with related topics to architect CAD software and drafting.  After graduation from high school, there are a number of choices one can make, including technical schools, junior colleges, university and even post-graduate work. Generally, college and university programs are preferred.  One can also specialize in a particular aspect of architecture, with its own particular demands and challenges and fields of study such as the construction of large buildings, or structures with special needs such as hospitals or airports.  Another route to obtain this training may be though the armed forces, through their engineering programs or after service education. As the architect CAD software programs have become more complex, although easier to use, more technicians will be needed to implement them, opening up more positions in this field.
